Graduate Research in PPNWithin the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neuroscience students will have the opportunity to participate in the most advanced experimental approaches to decipher the genomic to systems level pathophysiology of human disease. One large area of focus within the department is the pathophysiology of neurological disease. Students within the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program may participate in the Neuroscience Focus Group which is based in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neuroscience at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Students in the Neuroscience Focus Group take a core program of courses emphasizing cell and molecular biology with a strong foundation in neuroscience curriculum. The Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, Neuroscience participates in a new cross campus graduate program that involves the University of South Carolina and the Medical School. The Interdiciplinary Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program is a degree granting program which encompasses laboratories across multiple departments and disciplines that participate in biomedical research. The goal of this new program is to train the next generation of scientists and physician-scientists to carry out translational biomedical research and transform the genomic, proteomic, cellular and systems based basic research into new strategies to diagnose and treat human disease.
