Description of the PPN Viral Vector Laboratory

The Viral Vector Laboratory (VVL) is a core facility of the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience that exists primarily to supply viral vectors for research in departmental laboratories and those of their collaborators. At the discretion of the Director, viral vectors may also be produced for other investigators. At present, the VVL only produces lentivirus and recombinant herpes virus vectors. The VVL is supported by departmental resources and by fees charged for services provided.

SERVICES PROVIDED

  • Consultation
  • Viral Vectors
    • DesignIssues include:
      • Choice of vector
      • Choice of genetic elements and marker genes
      • Source of cDNA or miRNA sequences
      • Appropriate control virus
    • Construction
    • Isolation of Recombinants (herpes only)
    • Production
    • DeliveryThe minimum times required for vector production are 3 months for lentivirus and 6 months for herpesvirus. These lead times assume that 20 µg of a plasmid containing the cDNA or miRNA is on hand.
  • Molecular Cloning
