Kudos and congratulations to Dr. Leah Reznikov, formerly graduate student extraordinaire, on the successful completion of years of hard work. Leah will be traveling to the currently water-logged University of Iowa for her post-doctoral work. Good luck and best wishes for a wonderful future, Leah!

Congratulations and farewell to Dr. Leslie Sargent Jones, Associate Professor of PPN, who will be leaving us at the end of May 2008. Dr. Jones has accepted a position as Director of the Heltzer Honors Program at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Congratulations to Sonja Gurley, administrative coordinator of PPN, for successfully completing the semester-long GRANT Certificate course on May 7, 2008.

Congratulations to Dr. Jim Fadel and Dr. Larry Reagan, who will both be recommended for PROMOTION TO ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR with TENURE at the next Board of Trustees meeting!

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Britt Wilson, Medical Physiology Course Director, and Dr. Craig Davis, Medical Pharmacology Course Director, were each selected as 2008 Teacher of the Year by their respective classes!

Congratulations to Shana Dykema from the lab of Janet Fisher ("A Study of the Functional Effects of GABAA Receptor Subunit Mutations") & Jeet Guram from the lab of Sarah Sweitzer

("Physiological Basis for Fetal Alcohol-Induced Insensitivity to Touch and Hypersensitivity to Pain") for receiving Magellan Scholar Fellowships!

The Georgia-South Carolina Neuroscience Consortium Meeting on Saturday, March 29, at the State Museum in Columbia was well attended and a great success thanks to the hard work of the organizing committee, Drs. Leslie S. Jones, David D. Mott, and Marlene A. Wilson.

A Retirement Reception was held on December 7, 2007 at the School of Medicine Dean's Conference Room for Dr. Steven P. Wilson, PPN's chair since 2001. The departmental Holiday Lunch/Good-bye Party honoring "Dr. Steve" was held on December 14 at the Clarion Townhouse Hotel. Dr. Steve and Patricia moved back home to Pennsylvania during the January 2008, though he will still be serving as a consultant with the department.

Glenda Fedricci, administrative assistant, successfully completed the semester-long GRANT (Gamecock Administrators Network & Training) Certificate course with a final exam on December 5, 2007. Graduation was held in Capstone on main campus on January 10, 2008 with President Sorenson as guest speaker.
